About Us

Root Experience uses theatre as its tool to experiment with intermingling the perceived facts of life with the creative spirit of stories in an aim to produce fuller, yet freer, representations of what it is to be human.

Our work aims to encourage creativity to thrive either directly through performances and workshops, or indirectly through the hosting of various creative events.

Integrating the boundaries that separate the external behaviour of the human being from internal thoughts and feelings, we aim to create exciting theatrical forums where both the performers' and spectators' self awareness are free to roam, romp and develop, providing an opening to a valuable communication between us as individuals.

Spiced with humour, mischievousness, improvisation and metaphor, Root Experience aims to create magic from the mundane, playing with the process of crafting questions and listening to answers that arise.

Spectators’ reactions and thoughts, whether made public or kept private, are all present and contribute to the creation of living, breathing theatre where nothing is forced out of spectators except what they choose to let slip!

Root Experience has developed unique training skills for ensemble work and related workshops. Our work is the culmination of extended research projects, during which diverse methods are employed to investigate our ideas.

Root Experience was founded in 2006 by Artistic Director Simon Magnus, and is jointly run by himself and our Development Director, Laura Gubbins.

We are currently developing projects in both the UK and South Korea, to be kept up to date with our furture developments join our mailing list.
